This week I am excited to introduce you to Sonya + Richard. The two actually had a small wedding in the Dominican Republic last year and now want to celebrate their marriage with family and friends. They have been a joy to work with! Sonya knew exactly the vision she wanted for her day and together set off to plan the wedding of her dreams. The two lovebirds will be getting married at The Lace House in the next few weeks and I can’t wait to see all of the details come together.
Enjoy getting to know these two!!
How did you two meet? Richard and I met in 2014 in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic while I was vacationing on an all girls trip with my friends. My girls and I were out at the casino meeting up with some friends who they had met earlier in the day at the hotel. Richard and I were introduced to one another, and it was love at first sight. Even with the language barrier (He speaks Spanish and I speak English), and long distance (I am American and Richard is Dominican), we kept in touch after our trip. I went to visit him every two months, and although he knew only a few words in English, he dedicated himself to learn the language so that we could communicate with each other. Our love is unique, different, and we enjoy learning from one another every day. My Spanish has improved and so has his English; we look forward to becoming parents in the next year or two and raising bi-lingual babies.
How did your fiance pop the question… were you expecting it? Well, this is where my hubby and I disagree. LOL He swears that I was the one who asked him to marry me, but I remember it differently. We only dated for about 4 months before getting married “eloping” on December 2, 2014. We both knew that it would be a challenge with us living in separate countries, and we both knew that we were made for one another and did not want to prolong our time apart. So, we decided to get married after dating for 4 months.
Describe your wedding in 3 words: OVER THE TOP!!
Now all the details (theme, style, color, must-haves)?!! Southern Elegance… Must have BLUE because I’m a Zeta. 🙂
What has been your favorite source of wedding inspiration? Pintrest, Etsy, and Instagram!!!
What have you loved most about planning your wedding? I loved being able to plan it with my husband. We didn’t have a real wedding in the Dominican Republic, and now we are able to share this moment with our family!
What has been the most difficult? The most difficult part has been getting my husband adjusted to the U.S (he arrived only 2 months ago) and planning the wedding. 🙂 It’s been really difficult, but we have been able to overcome all obstacles and we look forward to spending our lives together.
What are you most looking forward to on the wedding day? I am most looking forward to saying our vows in English in front of our family… 🙂 When we were married I said them in Spanish; so this time I will get to have my American Wedding that I’ve always dreamed of.
Do you have any advice for newly engaged couples as they go through the planning process? Yes. Do not stress yourself out, and enjoy the moment.
